On March 8, 2025, a vibrant afternoon at the CLT Creative Workspace, the Charlotte Black Film Festival (CBFF) brought the film community together for a major moment: awarding the 2025 Microfilm Grant checks to a select group of emerging Black filmmakers.

This event was more than symbolic it was about real support, real dollars, and real belief in the power of Black stories.

Each recipient stepped up to receive a grant check that will help fund the production of their original short film or web series. From concept to creation, these funds mark a major step forward in turning bold ideas into tangible cinematic works. There were cheers, hugs, and even a few tears as filmmakers were publicly recognized for their creative vision and financially empowered to bring it to life.

Alongside the check presentations, the event featured remarks from CBFF organizers and special guests, speaking to the importance of investing in Black storytelling and the unique voices shaping the film industry from the ground up. Several recipients shared what this moment meant to them highlighting the challenges of indie filmmaking, the importance of community backing, and how this grant is helping break down barriers that too often stand in the way of production.

Hosting this event at the CLT Creative Workspace wasn’t just about logistics it was intentional. As a hub for creatives, entrepreneurs, and visionaries in Charlotte, our space was the perfect backdrop for this empowering night. When Black creatives are given the space and the resources, magic happens.

These films are now officially in motion, and we can’t wait to see them premiere at the 15th Annual Charlotte Black Film Festival later this year. We’ll be following each project’s journey, from script to screen, and continuing to support the work of CBFF and the talented artists they uplift.
